Spurreli Boutique Icecream Marketplace, Amble,

Northumberland - 01665 710890

This really is something a little different to the norm and very special, located close to the harbour area in Amble. Spurelli Boutique Icecream have quickly risen since their opening in August 2010 to be rated as one of the top places to eat in Northumberland. It's a simple concept really, making and serving some of the best icecream, made with local ingredients, that you can get anywhere. It's not just about the beautiful flavours, quality and range of product available though, it's the friendly and relaxing atmosphere, great staff, free wifi and good coffee that all add up to a special environment. You'll be spoilt for choice, it's a bit like the 'kid in a sweet shop' syndrome, you have no idea what you want or what to ask for except 'all of them!!' The knickerbockerglory in particular had us revisiting our childhood and devouring eagerly every mouthful. Spurelli is open 7 days a week all year round, with extended opening hours in the Summer.

Zecca 47-49 High Street, Amble, Northumberland - 01665 713575

Zecca is an exciting addition to Amble's restaurants, they serve 'traditional Italian cuisine with a modern twist' with an emphasis on the excellent quality, locally caught seafood that the area produces in abundance. They buy their seafood fresh from the fishermen of Amble which means it always tastes great, it also supports the local community, which we would always encourage. It's not all about the fish though, they hand make all their pizza dough and cook it in a traditional wood oven (the best way to cook pizza) and all prepared by an award-winning chef. Combine all this with good value for money and friendly staff and you're onto a winner.

The Wellwood High Street, Amble, Northumberland - 01665 714646

Easily the nicest Pub in Amble for visitors to have a drink and a meal. There's an outside seating area if the weather is good and the decor inside has recently been completely overhauled and is modern and pleasant. There is a restaurant attached to the bar which serves good food at reasonable prices. A personal gripe is having to order your sides (chips, salads, vegetables) as extras, although some dishes do come with their accompaniments. The atmosphere and food more than make up for this small complaint. If it's a pub meal you're after, or just a quiet drink, then this is definitely the best choice in Amble. The Wellwood was recently a finalist in our campaign to find Northumberland's Best Sunday Lunch, you can read a review from our latest visit on our Blog.

Quayside Chippie Fishmarket, Amble, Northumberland - 07526 126583This Fish and Chip restaurant is right on the entrance to the harbour. Lets be perfectly honest about this place though, it's not a restaurant in the traditional sense of the word. A more suited description would be a self service Cafe, you collect your food from the counter and pay for it before you take your seat. What you do get however, is some of the best, freshest and tastiest fish and chips you'll ever experience and you get to sit down while you eat them. What more could you need. The drinks menu is also comprehensive with a good choice of cocktails that are made to order.

Golden Harbour Leazes Street, Amble, Northumberland - 01665 714889

This, as the name would suggest, is a Chinese Takeaway located close to the harbour. Wherever we are in Northumberland, if we're after a Chinese we will make an effort to come here for it. I've regularly seen queues out of the door and it's not difficult to see why, I particularly enjoy a good spare rib and theirs are meaty and full of flavour. Easily the best Chinese for many miles around.
