Your Guide to Wooler
The Market Town of Wooler is located at the foot of the Cheviot Hills on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and makes an excellent base to discover the scenic Glendale area. Wooler is an attractive stone built town in North Northumberland, 17 miles from Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the North and 47 miles from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the South. The Town Centre consists of a busy main street with many pubs, restaurants, speciality shops, butchers and local producers, everything you could need. There are few places in Northumberland that can rival Wooler and Glendale's natural beauty and the area has long been a family favourite for walks and days out to 'escape from it all'.

Getting There
Towards the North of the County, Wooler is best accessed via the A697 that runs from the A1 at Morpeth to the South and Coldstream in the Scottish borders to the North. It's an extremely scenic drive no matter which direction you arrive from. The local bus service is operated by Glen Valley Tours and serves the community with buses to Berwick, Alnwick, Morpeth and Nwecastle amongst others. There is a public car park alongside the bus station in the centr of the town, the postcode for your SatNav is NE71 6BY.

There is a fantastic Italian Restaurant, a curry house, plenty of pubs and takeaways in the town itself. Attractions and Things To Do in WoolerThe town of Wooler provides an excellent base for walking in the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park, we've picked out and highlighted our favourite routes. Not far from Wooler you can step back in time at the Ford and Etal Estate. Attractions here include Heatherslaw Light Railway which has long been a family favorite, Heatherslaw Corn Mill, Heatherslaw Bakery, Etal Castle (English Heritage) and much more. The area is also packed full of history with the Flodden Battle Fields, Maelmin Heritage Trail and the Duddo Stones to discover. There is also some wonderful fishing opportunities in the bountiful local rivers and some simply stunning cycle tracks that provide some of the best scenery the County has to offer. Shopping, Food and Supermarkets
There is one supermarket in Wooler itself, the Co-op on the High Street. The nearest large supermarkets if you need to find them are in Berwick or Alnwick. Both towns also have a good selection of independent retailers that I would urge you to support ahead of the big chains. Wooler has a good range of independent shops most of which can be found on the High Street, The Good Life Shop is a family run grocery enterprise specialising in cheese, the most local of which is from Doddington Dairy (the smoked Cuddy's Cave is my favourite!). The shop can be found at number 52 High Street in the centre of Wooler. The Chocolate Box is a lovely traditional shop on the High Street that sells all kinds of sweets and chocolates, you'll be like a kid in a candy store!
Also on the high street is the Post Office, a butcher, pharmacy, hairdresser, flower shop, an optician, Gear For Girls (outdoor clothing) and quite a few antique shops. On the edge of Wooler is the fantastic Farm to Freeze wholesale shop, although they also have a handy retail shop on the High Street! They take pride in selling only the best quality meat and game products.
Events in Wooler
Without a doubt the largest event in Wooler is the fantastic Glendale Show that takes place each year on August Bank Holiday. The show has been going for over 120 years and continues to bring visitors in their thousands to the area. The show is a celebration of rural life with attractions normally including A Sheep Show and Sheep Racing,
