There's the Coast and Castles Cycle Route that showcases the best our coast has to offer, taking in Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle as it weaves its way between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Kielder Water and Forest Park has an extensive network of off-road tracks, perfect for family cycling, as well as the Lakeside Way – a 26 mile trail that encircles the shoreline of Kielder Water. Then there's the more strenuous long distance cycle routes of Northumberland. For a start we have the northern stretch of the Pennine Cycleway, England's longest 'challenge' cycle route running through Haltwhistle, Bellingham and Wooler. You couldalso try Hadrian's Cycleway which stretches the length of our World Heritage Site taking in Roman forts and temples, market towns and quaint villages. Whatever kind of cycling you're into, Northumberland is sure to please. |
