Morpeth's Shopping

Morpeth simply has great shopping! It has an excellent balance of National chain stores, such as Marks and Spencer and Laura Ashley, independent shops like Rutherford's Department Store, local retailers and excellent markets. We have broken down the Shopping Guide into three, the Sanderson Arcade, Bridge Street and Oldgate and Newgate Street.

Sanderson ArcadeYou can't help but notice the Sanderson Arcade, it now stands proudly in the centre of Morpeth's main shopping street. There is an entrance from here, Bridge Street, and also from the Bus Station and main parking area at the rear of the centre. The centre has a wide ranging selection of 27 up-market shops, a ladies only fitness gym and beauty rooms. The centre itself is extremely stylish and well thought out, in summer the beautiful flower displays contribute to the Morpeth in Bloom competition and in winter they have stunning Christmas decorations.

The shops at Sanderson Arcade include:

New Look, Advanced Nutrition, The Jewellers Guild, The Body Shop, Clarkes, Ladbrokes, Marks and Spencer, Martin Mccoll, The Wedding Gallery, Paperchase, Lemon, Sky, Central Bean Coffee House, Crewe Clothing Company, Vision Express, Waterstones, Monsoon, Jazz, Oxley's of Morpeth, Fat Face, Mountain Warehouse, JoJo Maman Bebe, East, Laura Ashley, Curiously Wicked and the Corbridge Larder!

That's really quite an impressive line up and they are constantly striving to improve the customer's shopping experience.

Bridge Street

Bridge Street is home to some of Morpeth's national chain shops including Boots the Chemist, Clinton Cards, Superdrug, Thomas Cook Travel, White Stuff and Specsavers Optician. However, the more interesting independent shops on Bridge Street are led by Rutherford & Co, a privately owned 'premier lifestyle store' that opened in 1846 and still thrives today. The Rutherford family have travelled across the world to source the best products that you could possibly need. It's a department store akin to House of Fraser or John Lewis, but with a more independent and personable atmosphere. There is a restaurant on the first floor which you may need to pay a visit for a rest as this shop can appear to be endless!
