Hooked Restaurant 25 Northumberland Street, Alnmouth, Northumberland 01665 830335
Hooked is Alnmouth's newest restaurant and it's a cracker! They've climbed towards the very top of the Tripadvisor rankings for the County within a very short space of time so of course we had to check them out. We were impressed from the outset, a modern and stylish setting with a locally sourced menu leaning towards fish (as you would expect from the name). Plenty of choice, a modern and clean presentation, friendly staff and an intimate feel with just a handful of tables. What's not to love? Currently open in the evenings from Wednesday to Sunday 6pm to 9/9.30pm and extended hours in the Summer this should be your first stop for a top class meal in the area. In fact, we'd go as far as to say this is one of our favourite places to eat in the County.
The Sun Inn 29 Northumberland Street, Alnmouth, Northumberland 01665 830 983
Perhaps the brightest and most colourful of Alnmouth's Inns from the outside, and certainly one of the best for food on the inside. The chef at the Sun Inn is always careful to source local ingredients and with Alnmouth being right on the coast it would be a crime not to take advantage of the fresh catches available. The menu is seasonal, but also thoughtful, to reflect the seasons themselves with hot baguettes in winter and crisp salads in the summer. We really enjoyed our very reasonably priced (and well filled!) sandwiches and will be back to further explore the menu soon.
Bistro 23 23 Northumberland Street, Alnmouth, Northumberland 01665 830393
A stylish Tea Room during the day and a fantastic Bistro on a Wednesday and Saturday evening, we love Bistro 23! You'll need to book in advance in the peak seasons as it is a very popular place to dine. We put that success down to a lovely atmosphere, excellent food and friendly, efficient service. It's surprisingly difficult to find all of those qualities in one place these days, but Bistro 23 manage it with almost disturbing ease. The menu isn't elaborate, but there is a fine choice of dishes available for each course, the food is freshly prepared and cooked to order with a stylish presentation. The price is very reasonable considering the quality, although one thing to point out is bring some cash, they didn't accept payment by card when we visited. That's the only 'down side' we can come up with really, if you can call it that! Make this your first port of call for a meal out in Alnmouth.
The Red Lion 22 Northumberland Street, Alnmouth, Northumberland 01665 830 584
There is nothing better on a nice day than sitting and enjoying a drink on the raised deck in the garden at the Red Lion. The outside space just cannot be beaten, with a lawned area with picnic tables and then the deck with absolutely stunning views over the Estuary and the River Aln. If it's just a drink you're after then you'd be hard pressed to beat the Red Lion. Don't write them off for food either though, the dining room inside is modern, fresh and clean and the menu extensive and freshly prepared. Inside the Inn is packed with character, with beamed ceilings and tradition yet modern decor, food is served seven days a week.
Dandelion Cafe Nether Grange, Alnmouth, Northumberland 01665 830 431
New to Alnmouth's Cafe scene is the Dandelion Cafe. It occupies an excellent and convenient position overlooking the Village Golf Course and not far from the beach and the main car park. The Cafe is perfect for a warm drink after a walk on the beach, light lunches and freshly baked cakes and scones are also served. It has already become incredibly popular with visitors and locals alike and has quickly become part of our ritual when visiting Alnmouth. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
