Beadnell Bay to Bamburgh

This is a varied and extremely popular stretch of coastline. With watersports and a vast expanse of sandy beach in Beadnell Bay, the Seaside resort town of Seashouses with it's amusements and Farne Island trips and the ancient Village of Bamburgh that has barely been touched by modern life. Quite a contrast in such a short stretch! This part of the County has something to offer everyone and in the Summer months can get extremely busy. It also includes my favourite view, looking across the beach at Bamburgh to the dramatic Castle, it's an area you could never tire of visiting.

Beadnell Bay

Beadnell bay is a stunning stretch of coastline with a wide sandy beach backed by huge sand dunes that are so steep they are ripe for sledging! This is probably the best place in the county to visit if you're active and like watersports, you can do pretty much anything here from surfing and rafting to scuba diving and cliff jumping! Or of course you could just relax on the beautiful beach.

Seahouses

This is the closest thing you will get to a traditional 'seaside resort' in Northumberland and is gateway to the beautiful Farne Islands, home of the Puffin. There are amusements, gift shops, restaurants and pubs and unbeatable fish and chips. Boat trips to the Farne Islands leave regularly from the harbour. Whilst the Islands are now famous as a wildlife haven, they are also known for their association with the Northumbrian Saints, most notably Saint Cuthbert. During his lifetime Cuthbert was never far away from his beloved Farne Islands. Even after his death on the Inner Farne in 687AD, his spirit lives on today through a tremendous world-wide following. A day visiting Seahouses is an exciting fun-packed experience.

Bamburgh

Bamburgh village is dominated by one of the most spectacular castles in the Country. You really cannot fail to be impressed by its pure size and stature. The beach at Bamburgh is often overlooked, and with the Castle as a backdrop it really is a lovely place. The Castle is occupied but is also open to the public and has a tea room. The Village itself is also well worth exploring, with it's cricket ground at the foot of the Castle, quaint tea rooms, Inns and restaurants, it's a perfect picture of how an old English Village should be. While you're there take a look around the newly refurbished Grace Darling Museum, she was the inspiration for the famous song 'Amazing Grace'. Grace famously rowed from the Farne Islands to save a shipwrecked crew and the museum commemorates her story and immense bravery.
