Rothbury's Restaurants, Pubs and Cafes

Your Guide to places to eat and drink in Rothbury. For such a small place there really is an excellent choice of cuisine and establishments.

Below you will find highlights of some of our preferred places for each category. If you eat at any of these places be sure to mention where you heard about them!

Restaurants and Pubs

La Mensa Town Foot, Rothbury, Northumberland - 07907 430818

This lovely Italian restaurant is on the approach to the village when arriving from the East on the main road before your reach the Coop. It's a really family friendly and fun place to get some home made classic Italian food, there's even a beer garden for the Summer! La Mensa is very popular with locals and visitors so booking is always recommended.

Bewicks Church House, Rothbury, Northumberland - 07961 775076

A more recent (and very welcome) addition to the Village is the lovely bistro Bewicks. Kevin Mulraney is the executive chef and owner of Bewicks, he is a decorated chef who had huge success in London before returning to the North East with his family. The food here is excellent, it's high end Bistro food that is absolutely packed with flavour and we love to visit on a special occasion or just pop in for Coffee! Visit the Bewicks website.

The Anglers Arms Weldon Bridge, Longframlington, Northumberland - 01665 570271

The Anglers at Weldon Bridge is a short drive from Rothbury and has been a perennial favourite of ours for many years. Set in an attractive Hamlet location near the River Coquet the Anglers is a lovely country style pub. It's the quality of the food in the Bar area that keeps us coming back, with special offers on weeknights (except Friday) if you order before 6pm. Highlights include their 'Petite Grill' which is anything but petite and their classic home made fish and chips. It's just great pub food done exceptionally well in a pleasant setting. There is also plenty of outdoor space with a children's play area should the weather be amenable. Visit their website for more information.

The Three Wheat Heads Front Street, Thropton, Northumberland - 01669 620262

Our next recommendation is actually in the neighbouring village of Thropton about a mile to the west of Rothbury. On a nice day you can make the walk over or just jump in the car for a few minutes. The Three Wheat Heads has been a family favourite for the last 30 years, the restaurant offers the most beautiful views over the Coquet Valley and there is a wonderful beer garden to take it all in. Our favourites include their sizzlers and Sunday lunches, although you'll find anything on the menu delicious and extremely generous in portion! More information on the Three Wheat Heads website.

The Narrow Nick High Street, Rothbury, Northumberland

A really popular dog friendly local bar on the High Street serving great drinks, a warm welcome and a bit of banter!

The Newcastle House Front Street, Rothbury, Northumberland - 01669 620344

Right in the centre of the Village you will find the Newcastle House Hotel. It's a popular place with locals and there's always something happening here whether its their Sky Sports coverage or live music and quiz nights.

Anisha Tandoori Restaurant The Vale Cafe, High Street, Rothbury, Northumberland - 07780 147025

Perhaps surprisingly for a rural location there is a very good Indian Restaurant in the heart of Rothbury. Located in Vale Cafe on the High Street in the evenings, in the centre of the Village is Anisha Tandoori. It's great that there is such a variety of cuisine in Rothbury and the Village Tandoori certainly adds to the choice on offer. They offer a simple, yet varied menu of great tasting dishes that include all your classic Indian favourites from Tandoori to Tikka Massala and Jalfrezi. The restaurant also offers a takeaway service, check their Facebook page for the latest information.

Turks Head HIgh Street, Rothbury, Northumberland - 01669 620434

This is a classic traditional pub on the High Street offering good beers and bar meals. There is a great dog friendly beer garden at the back of the pub which is probably the biggest and best beer garden in Rothbury!

Queens Head Town Foot, Rothbury, Northumberland - 01669 620481

A Traditional pub at the entrance to the Village offering bar meals and accommodation.

Cafes, Bakeries and Takeaways

The Vale Cafe High Street, Rothbury, Northumberland - 01669 620461

A popular Cafe on the High Street, The Vale Cafe offers home cooked food from breakfasts to main meals. Always popular with the visiting bikers on a sunny day its a vibrant place to grab a drink and a bite to eat.

The Rothbury Bakery High Street, Rothbury, Northumberland - 01669 621991

I've been getting my breakfast sandwiches, pies and cakes from here for more years than I care to remember. Always a friendly welcome and always good value, it keeps me coming back several times a week!
